¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
Good Morning Everyone and Happy Cinco de Mayo!
For those who do not know what Cinco de Mayo is it an unofficial holiday in America that celebrates Battle of Puebla in 1862 where Mexican forces defeated those of Napolian III and the Second French Empire. Even though they won the battle their general died shortly afterwards and the Mexican were defeated in a second battle and Mexico was conquered by the French. It is often mistaken as Mexican Independence day which is September 16 and not really celebrated in America.
In good American tradition this holiday has morphed into a general celebration of Mexican-Americans and their culture in a similar style of St. Patrick's Day is for the Irish and Columbus Day is for the Italians. It's America baby! We take that shit and make it our own! It is what we do and we do it well!
Like ALL American holidays it is a time to party! While the Mexican-American community will have more traditional celebrations the rest of America it will be a day of tacos, margaritas, plenty of cerveza (that's beer for you heathens) and tequila.
