Doxxing By Any Other Name

 

Good Morning Everyone!!!

Well it has been an interesting morning to say the least and the Disqusverse is all a buzz with drama!

There have been some heavy accusations made over at the 421st. Stan has accused Gus of tracking down his real identity and actually making a phone call to his wife's phone! In addition to this it has been speculated that the Mrs. Usra sock is actually Gus and the recent name change of the sock is derivative of the Real Mrs. Ursa name.

If true these are some troubling developments and a disturbing escalation of the trolling there though one has to admit the trolling there has been disturbing for years.

These recent revelations has got me thinking on the subject of trolling, doxxing, and how Internet life can spill over into the real world.

Stan and the 421st along with other blogs and channels going back to the start of Disqus has been a known haven for trolls. I've done it, many if not most of you here have done it to some extent at one time or another. The question is when does trolling cross the line? Any touching of the real world no matter how faint? Is online activity outside of the Disqusverse fair game?Full blown name, address, phone number, work history, ...etc? Somewhere in between?

Does it matter whom is being "doxxed"? Lets not forget we and not dealing with vestal virgins getting blindsided out of nowhere over an online disagreement. This is a group that has skirted that line for years in their trolling.

It has been hypothesized that Gus's recent activities is in retribution for Stan doxxing Jag on his blog over past grievances. For those who don't know Stan posted Jag's picture and RW police report over an unfortunate family matter. He gleefully made several blog OP's on the matter, crowed for days on how he was paying Jag back and even changed his avatar to Jag's picture. 

A few years back Stan posted a yearbook photo of Char in an OP. She made quite a stink about being doxxed. Everyone in the group was fine with it as it was a photo she had posted online (online information is fair game right?) yet the same group had their panties in a wad when Howdy posted a RW photo of LL even though she has posted RW photos of herself over at The Swamp.

I have been on Disqus for a long time and there is much shitfuckery I could detail about this merry band of trolls. There are stories of phonecalls in the night, outright no questions asked doxxing, relentless stalking, people who present all sweet and innocent that nothing could be further from the truth but I will save that for another day.

I am rambling a bit and there is much inside baseball going on for those who are not part of that group. I apologize. For you I guess the best takeaway is to remember that the Internet is forever, it is full of loons, and never forget you really are not anonymous. If someone has some time and skills and is loony enough to do it they can track you down in the RW.
