After tirelessly searching the Interweebs to bring you interesting, thought provoking and hopefully entertaining topics my thoughts have turned to BCI's (Brain-Computer Interface). Current technology is for small computer chips to be implanted into the brain than pick up electronic signals and then transmit them to an outside device for further analysis and processing.

 

You may or not be aware of the work of Elon Musk and his Neuralink. It is a BCI being developed and promoted at an aide to those with disabilities to regain normal functions. This has advanced beyond theoretical research in the lab to human clinical trial. As of this writting there are 9 people with these implants.

This is a rapidly evolving field and Elon's Neualink are not the only ones involved. 

Sam Altman (of Chat-GPT fame) has just announced he is throwing his hat into the ring. Sam is a left wing authoritarian with no respect of the rights of the individual. This is not a person I would want mucking around in mine or anyone else brain.

Subsense is going a slightly different route by using nanoparticles injected into the brain that can read and input electrical signals along with drug delivery to the brain ( let the ramification of that sink in). From their website:

Fine line between "stimulating" and controlling, very fine.

The latest article and the impetus for this OP is research coming out of Stanford University. In a research paper published in Cell researchers have been able to tap into a persons inner monologue.

Think about it. The ability to tap into a persons sanctum sanatorium, their final refuse of independence and privacy. It has me wondering where we are going as a society and a species. We already have a society in America where Individual Liberties as not respected and demonized (If COVID hasn't taught you that nothing will). Europe where you will get more time for an Internet meme than you do as a Rapist is even worse. The rest of the world has never respected the Rights of the Individual you are just slaves to the ruling class.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that the Amish are the only ones who got it right. We may get lucky yet and a massive solar flare will reset the clock and we can try thing differently.
